Swami Malai Temple: Mahatirtha of Hindus
The Swami Malai Temple should be called the Mahatirtha of the Hindus. The reason is that Lord Swami Malai Temple is one of the best temples of Lord Kartikeya.

So this place is known as the name of the Swaminath temple. It is the legend that Kartikeya had insulted Brahma ji, the creator of the universe, during Kailash Yatra. By which Brahma ji was angry on Shiva son Kartikeya i.e. Murugan.
Murugan asked Brahma ji how he had created the universe. Brahma ji responded with the help of the Vedas. Brahma ji started the chanting of the sacred Pranav mantra Om. Brahma ji could not give a reply on which Murugan asked to tell the meaning of Pranava Mantra. When no response was received, Murugan had captured Brahma ji. After this Murugan took responsibility for the creation of the universe. On discovering this,
Lord Shiva asked Murugan to release Brahma from captivity, Murugan said that Brahma ji did not know the meaning of pranav mantra ie ohm. Lord Shiva asked Murugan to explain the meaning of Pranava Mantra. In front of Lord Shiva, Prafulla Mantra is praised by Murugan.
Legend has it that Lord Shiva named Murugan as Swaminath Swami. It means the teacher of Lord Shiva. It is believed that this concept underlines the temple of Lord Shiva and Lord Murugan. Lord Shiva's temple is located under the hill, while Lord Murugan's temple is situated on the top of the hill.
