  It is believed that after the war of Ram-Ravan, the goddess goddess here had been handed over to King Vibhishan of Lanka. On returning to Lanka, Lord Vishnu appeared before Vibhishan. Lord Vishnu expressed his desire to live as Lord Raangnath in this place. It is believed that Lord Vishnu is sitting here in the form of Shri Ranganath.
   It is believed that during the Vedic period there was an ashram of Gautama Rishi on the banks of Godavari river. After seeing the water crisis, he came to the Rishi-Muni Ashram of many other places and urged Gautama Rishi to help. Seeing the fertilizer land, land has got lured into other sages. Finally, the sages charged Gautama Rishi with guavas and acquired all the land in the area. Gautam Rishi went to Shri Rangam and worshiped Lord Ranganath. 
  It is believed that Lord Ranganath has given the philosophy and blessings to be pleased with worship. It is also believed that on the insistence of Gautam Rishi, Brahma ji himself built this temple.
