Somnath Temple: Glorious History

     The Somnath Temple has its own unique and special significance in Dwashash Jyorthaling of Adorable Lord Shiva. The Somnath Temple situated at Beraval port of Saurashtra region of Gujarat is the first Jyothirlinga recognition.

     Legend has it that Som (moon) had married 27 daughters of King Dakaraprajapati. Soma did not love the same love for all his wives. Due to this behavior of Som, the angry prasapapati had cursed that Kanti would be impaired.  
    Therefore, Som had worshiped Shiva. On which Lord Shiva came to this place and redressed the curse. Being Shiva's place here, this place is called Somnath Temple. Jyothirlinga Somnath Temple has been repugnant and reconstructed many times. 
     The Archeology Department of the Government of India established Jyotirlinga of Shiva on the Brahmashila, obtained from excavation. Digvijay Singh, the King of Saurashtra, laid the foundation of the new Somnath temple on May 8, 1950.  
   After this, on May 11, 1951, the country's first President, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, set up a new Jyothirlinga in the temple. New Somnath Temple was completed in 1962. In the year 1970, the mother of Jamnagar had constructed the Digvijay Gate in memory of her husband. It is believed that seeing the Jyothirlinga Somnath temple gets relief from suffering and misery. In this center of faith, faith and faith, a huge crowd of devotees keeps on growing.
